“Every Act of Kindness is a Charity”
The ParkBench Project was initiated by Sameer Dagga at IANT Richardson in collaboration with Br. Syed Khalid and other IANT Board Members in August 2022. The project, completed in just eight months, involved meticulous planning, collaboration with city officials, and obtaining necessary approvals from IANT and other organizations. Following approval, fundraising efforts began, leading to the installation of 17 park benches across various parks in Richardson, Texas.
Purpose of the ParkBench Project
The ParkBench Project embodies the concept that “Every act of kindness is a charity.”
This initiative emphasizes:
- Social Responsibility: Encouraging individuals and the Muslim community in the DFW area to actively participate in charitable and community-driven projects.
- Community Engagement: Strengthening relationships within and across communities while highlighting the importance of contributing to shared spaces.
- Sadaqah Jariyah (Ongoing Charity): Honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to IANT Mosque by dedicating benches in their names as a lasting symbol of appreciation.
Significance
The installation of park benches serves multiple purposes:
- Fostering Community Awareness: Encouraging the community to engage in acts of kindness and cooperation for the collective good.
- Acknowledging Contributions: Recognizing IANT pioneers and other contributors whose efforts have shaped the organization.
- Encouraging Outdoor Activities: Creating inviting spaces for residents to enjoy parks, thus reviving interest in local outdoor facilities.
